Siege Of Adrianople (Iqbal's Muhasara-e-Edirne)

                                                         Siege of Adrianople
                                                  (Iqbal’s Muhasara-e-Edirne)

When in Europe war between the Just and the Unjust broke out,

The Just became forced to take up arms and fight,

The Christian Belkan states surrounded the Muslim Turkey state,

Shukri became sieged in the fort of Edirne,*

The stocks of eatables of the Muslim soldiers exhausted,

They lost all hopes of reinforcement,

At last by the order of the Turkish commander,

Mashal law was enforced in the town,

                          Everything became army property,

Tukish army became needy of the Christian help,

But, when the Muslim Jurist heard this news,

Becoming enraged he turned like thunderbolt of Sinai,

“Use of the ruled masses’ property is forbidden for Muslims”,

This judicial verdict became public in whole town,

The army did not touch the belongings of the Jews and the Christians,

Muslims became forced by the order of the Shariah and court and surrendered.

  (Suggestions invited for betterment.)
                         * Shukri Pasha was the commander of the Turkish army. He resisted for
five months, then surrendered in February 1913. The Turks regained the
town in July 1913 under the command of Ghazi Anwar Pasha.
